PURPOSE OF ROLE:
Dragon Infrastructure are licensed to design and install gas and electricity distribution networks for gas transporters (GT) and independent gas transporters (IGT), distribution network operators (DNOs) and independent distribution network operators (IDNOs).

The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and planning associated with gas distribution installations.  The candidate will become an essential member of the Design Team, to produce drawing, technical designs information, route maps. Although this will be a main part of the responsibilities, the successful candidate will also assist in producing drawings to go with all onsite work instructions, tendering plans and traffic management works.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management of the delivery of the gas designs of individual projects

  • Communicate with the upstream and adopting GT/IGT to obtain design approval
  • Carry out risk assessments for the network type and construction methods to be incorporated into the design
  • Design the network using a design tool such as Gas Works ensuring the correct pressure tier is applied to determine the network routing and requirements for pressure control equipment
  • Liaison with other designers to ensure that the most cost efficient multi- utility solution that is consistent with gas standards is achieved
  • Maintain a record of the progress of each design project to include communications, notices and applications (FM153a etc)
  • Maintain all design records to include calculations and assumptions made
  • Create and deliver the information required for client awareness of their responsibilities
  • Attend handover meetings and ensure sufficient information is included to allow delivery to work safely
  • Complete variations to designs in accordance with Company procedures
  • Produce cost estimates in line with commercial procedures
  • Support and develop other members of the team to enhance their technical knowledge and experience to undertake small networks
  • Liaison with clients to determine the design parameters
  • Production of gas designs that can be constructed in compliance with standards and CDM requirements and conform to all relevant Codes of Practice, company and industry standards in conjunction with civil design
  • To ensure that all tenders and contracts are undertaken in accordance with NERS / GIRS specific Operations Manuals

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essentials:

  • Qualified through IGEM to EngTech
  • NVQ Level 4 Gas Network Engineering Management Design Qualification or
  • City & Guilds 5831-80 qualification in Gas Network Design

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in an ICP/GT/IGT industry
  • Knowledge of the gas designer’s duties under CDM
  • Proven ability to work to time, cost and quality
  • Have a good level of business, environmental, safety, financial, and regulatory awareness
  • SUSA safe & unsafe acts
